E. 68th Avenue Improvements

Location map for E. 68th Avenue Project

About the Project

Commerce City is making improvements to E. 68th Avenue to create a safer, more pedestrian-friendly street for everyone who uses it, whether they walk, bike, drive, or take transit. The project spans 0.4 miles of E. 68th Avenue between Colorado Boulevard and Brighton Boulevard (SH 265) and serves local neighborhoods, Alsup Elementary School, and Rose Hill Grange Park.

E. 68th Avenue is an important everyday route for families, students, and neighbors. It also helps connect people walking or biking to the Commerce City and 72nd Avenue RTD Light Rail Station, located about half a mile northwest of the project area.

The project addresses safety concerns and focuses on practical improvements to make the corridor safer and easier to use. Potential upgrades may include wider sidewalks, new and improved crosswalks, curb extensions at intersections (bulb outs that shorten the crossing distance and improve visibility for drivers and pedestrians), ADA-compliant curb ramps, updated lane striping, better street lighting, and drainage improvements. Some crosswalks may also include Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs), which are flashing lights that alert drivers when someone is crossing. Existing speed humps will remain in place or be replaced, and stormwater features will be added to help manage runoff and protect local waterways.

Project Goals

The goals of the E. 68th Avenue Multimodal Safety Improvements Project are to:

  • Make walking and biking safer and more comfortable for traveling to and from Alsup Elementary School and nearby parks.
  • Improve connections for people walking or biking to the RTD light rail station.
  • Address drainage and accessibility issues that affect daily travel along the corridor.
