E. 120th Avenue Improvements
Project Details
The E. 120th Avenue Improvement Project (from Chambers Road to Buckley Road) is being managed by the Buffalo Ridge Metro District. Commerce City is a financial partner in this project.
The E. 120th Avenue Improvement Project will enhance the corridor between Chambers Road and Buckley Road to improve safety, traffic flow, and accessibility. Planned upgrades include additional travel and turn lanes, new curb and gutter, sidewalks, improved drainage systems, enhanced street lighting, and landscaping improvements.

Construction began in November 2025. Right lane of eastbound 120th Ave is closed at Chambers to allow for construction of widened roadway. Short-term closures of intersecting roads may occur for installation of utilities.

Construction is progressing with the project expected to be completed by Fall 2026.
Current Status and Impacts
IN PROGRESS: Traffic Signal on 120th at Chambers Rd and Buckley Rd
As part of the E. 120th Avenue Widening Project, crews will install new traffic signal infrastructure on E. 120th Avenue at Chambers Road and E. Buckley Road. The work will support future roadway improvements and accommodate the widening of E. 120th Avenue.
Current Status and Impacts
Construction will occur overnight from Monday, June 15, through the morning of Friday, June 19, between 6 p.m. and 4 a.m.
At both intersections, contractors will replace existing wire-span traffic signals with new signal poles, mast arms, and signal equipment to support the future widened roadway.
- Monday, June 15: Crews will work at the intersection of E. 120th Avenue and Chambers Road. Work is expected to be completed early Tuesday, June 16, in the morning.
- Tuesday, June 16, through the morning of Friday, June 19: Crews will work at the intersection of E. 120th Avenue and Buckley Road during overnight hours.
What to expect:
- Brief closures will occur
- Traffic control operations during construction.
- Flaggers will be on site to temporarily stop traffic as the wire is hoisted into place.
- Construction continues to progress with utility installation largely complete. Bottom lifts of paving have been placed in eastbound lanes.
- Periodic lane closures and intersection closures will be required. Residents will be notified of specific upcoming closures.
- Signal poles are to be placed at the intersections of Buckley Road and Chambers Road. Due to favorable weather conditions through the winter, project is ahead of schedule.
- With the intergovernmental agreement between the city and the Buffalo Ridge Metropolitan District now approved, the district is moving forward with the project’s construction.Traffic control for the work is scheduled to begin installation the week of Nov. 24. Travelers should use caution in the area and follow all posted signs.
