Environment
The city is working with an outside organization to identify and design two community gardens within the city to promote sustainable food practices and enhance food resiliency.
Community Gardens
The Community Gardens project (part of the ACT - Advancing Commerce City Together - Program) is progressing! These two new community gardens are part of the environmental initiative and will promote sustainability, provide fresh produce, and create spaces for community connection.
Open Houses in January 2026
Commerce City is working to create new community garden plots and invites residents to attend two upcoming open house events to learn more and offer feedback. The proposed locations include a garden site at Bison Ridge Recreation Center in the northern part of the city, as well as another at Freedom Park, serving the core and southern areas.
Two identical open houses will be held to give residents multiple opportunities to participate:
Attendees can review early design concepts, learn about the planning process, and discuss priorities and possibilities for the garden spaces with city staff.
Concept development is funded through Commerce City's allocation of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars, while additional funding will be pursued for project construction.
Public meetings took place earlier this year, see the presentations below to learn more:
