Latino Engagement Taskforce (LET)

The Latino Engagement Taskforce (LET) was created to ensure Latino residents are meaningfully engaged in shaping Commerce City’s policies, programs, and services. Established in 2015 in partnership with Cultivando, LET brings together Latino residents, many of whom are Spanish-speaking or from historically underrepresented communities, with city leadership to share lived experiences, identify barriers, and co-develop recommendations that strengthen equity and inclusion across the city.

Why LET Matters

Commerce City is one of Colorado’s most diverse and rapidly growing communities. Latino residents play a central role in the city’s cultural, economic, and social fabric. However, many families, particularly in the southern part of the city, have faced barriers related to language access, civic participation, housing stability, and public safety.

LET exists to ensure that these voices are heard, valued, and reflected in city decision-making. Through structured dialogue, education, and collaboration, LET helps the city better understand community needs and turn insight into action.

How LET Works

Recruited by Cultivando, each LET cohort participates in a structured engagement process that includes:

• Learning about how city government works
• Building relationships with city departments and leadership
• Identifying challenges facing the Latino community
• Developing recommendations for policy, programs, and services
• Presenting findings directly to City Council. These recommendations are formally documented and used to guide internal improvements, long-term planning, and departmental strategies.

In 2025, Commerce City paused the recruitment of a new LET cohort to conduct a comprehensive review of all recommendations from the past ten years.
