Judging Categories
Maintenance and Overall Care
Evaluates the general condition, upkeep, and consistency of the yard.
-
Yard is clean, orderly, and free of litter, debris, or excessive outdoor storage.
-
Grass or groundcover—if present—is maintained with no significant bare patches or uncontrolled weeds.
-
Plants of any type (grass, shrubs, perennials, annuals, native species, or xeriscape vegetation) appear tended, pruned as appropriate, and healthy.
-
Walkways, driveways, and curb areas are clear, safe to access, and free from dirt or clutter.
-
Fences, porches, visible structures, and exterior building elements are in reasonable repair.
Landscape Design and Visual Appeal
Focuses on intentional layout, visual coherence, and creativity.
-
Yard demonstrates a cohesive, thoughtful, or well‑organized design—whether formal, informal, minimal, natural, or artistic.
-
Plantings, beds, and natural areas are maintained with weeds removed, and dead plants cleared.
-
Color, texture, and plant variety may contribute to visual appeal but are not required.
-
Decorative elements (e.g., pots, small yard art, hanging baskets, bird feeders) may enhance the space but are optional and evaluated equally regardless of material.
Nomination Periods
The date of your submission may carry over into the next month's list of nominations, but please expect the date of your submission to reflect what month you are nominating someone for.

A property cannot win if it:
-
Is in violation of any city ordinance
-
Is currently for sale or rent
-
Has already won during the current year
