City facilities available Monday with temperature over 100 expected

With temperatures expected to soar above 100 degrees Monday, Commerce City is taking steps to help residents stay safe and cool. On Monday, July 20, city facilities can provide a space for any community member without access to air conditioning to cool down in our lobbies.

• The lobbies at Eagle Pointe Recreation Center (6060 Parkway Dr.) and Bison Ridge Recreation Center (13905 E. 112th Ave.) will be available for those needing relief from the heat from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday
• Shelter reservation requirements at Veterans Memorial Park (6015 Forest Dr.) will be temporarily lifted for Shelters 1 and 3 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, allowing anyone to use the shaded shelters without a reservation or time limit
• The Pioneer Park Splash Pad (5950 Holly St.) is open and free for everyone looking to cool off while enjoying outdoor shade structures and water play
• At the Civic Center (7887 E. 60th Ave.), community members can also cool off in the lobby during normal business hours, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday

City staff, including Park Rangers and outreach personnel, will be available at key locations to distribute water, answer questions, and connect individuals with additional community resources as needed.

Heat Safety Tips

• Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
• Limit outdoor activity during the hottest part of the afternoon.
• Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
• Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle.
• Check on older adults, neighbors, and others who may be more vulnerable to extreme heat.

The city will continue monitoring weather conditions and will adjust operations as needed.
