Who We Are
The Commerce City Police Department is committed to displaying and holding ourselves accountable to our five core values every day in every interaction:
Our Badge
In 2019, CCPD replaced the previous badge that had been worn for nearly 30 years. The new badge serves as a reminder of the department’s reform efforts in recent years. The new design is a combination of modern and retro styles, with an oval shape, angular and clean panel lines, and a black background.
The eagle is placed prominently to convey qualities of freedom, protection, and honor. The eagle’s talons clutch the United States and Colorado flags, representing both the department’s pride in those symbols and the importance of state and federal bodies in law enforcement. The flags and the state seal at the center are enameled in full color to make the badge unique and bold.
While the previous version of the badge was silver for officers and gold for command staff, all badges within the department are now silver. The date of the department’s 1952 inception was added as a nod to the city’s history, while the sunburst from the previous badge is reflected at the top of the oval.
Smith & Warren Badges of White Plains, NY designed the new badge (SmithWarren.com).

End of Watch Memorial
Detective Curt M. Holland
End of Watch Friday, October 16, 2020
CCPD Det. Curt Holland served and protected the residents of Commerce City for four years, first as a patrol officer and then a member of the traffic unit before being promoted to detective in early 2020. He had previously worked with the Denver Sheriff’s Department.
Det. Holland was an exceptional police officer, a devoted husband and father, and an exceedingly bright person with a great attitude. He was one of our most enthusiastic employees, always eager to take on any task handed to him, and brought his “A-Game” every day in service to our community.
Det. Holland, 37, was killed in a double-fatal traffic crash on Highway 2 on Oct. 16, 2020, along with local resident Francesca Dominguez, 31, a civilian and Commerce City native. The incident occurred just after 6 p.m., when a southbound F-350 pickup truck crossed into the northbound lanes of Highway 2 and collided head-on with Det. Holland's unmarked Commerce City Police Department Ford Explorer and a Kia Soul driven by Ms. Dominguez. The driver of the pickup was convicted of two counts of vehicular homicide - DUI in November 2024 and sentenced to 20 years in prison in January 2025.
