CCPD Investigates Fatal DUI Crash

COMMERCE CITY, CO., May 20th, 2026: The Commerce City Police Department’s Traffic Team is investigating a fatal collision that occurred in the early morning hours of May 20th, on Highway 85 at 120th.

Preliminary findings suggest the at-fault vehicle ran a red light at 120th while traveling southbound on Highway 85, striking the victim vehicle which was traveling eastbound on 120th through a green light.

As a result, several other vehicles were involved in secondary crashes while attempting to avoid the vehicles in the roadway.

The 50-year-old driver of the victim vehicle was ejected and sadly pronounced dead at the scene. All other drivers to include the at-fault driver were transported to local hospitals as a precaution, but no serious injuries were sustained.

The 20-year-old driver of the at-fault vehicle was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and is facing both DUI and Vehicular Homicide charges.
