Commerce City Police Department Arrests Student

Published on September 08, 2023

COMMERCE CITY, CO, Sept. 8, 2023: Just before 10 a.m. on Friday, Commerce City Police were made aware that a student at Lester Arnold High School (7100 block of E 73rd Ave.) was allegedly in possession of a gun.

CCPD no longer contracts with the Adams County School District 14 to provide school resource officers, so there were no officers inside the building at the time of the call. However we responded immediately, contacted the student, and recovered what was a very realistic looking airsoft gun from his person (see the attached photo of the weapon).

Although the investigation is ongoing, it does not appear the 16-year-old student threatened to use the gun or brandished it at another person. He is facing three misdemeanor charges: Unlawfully Concealing a Weapon, Disturbing Lawful Assembly- Educational Institutions, and Possession of an Illegal Weapon.

The Commerce City Police Department takes these situations very seriously, whether the weapon in question is real or simply appears to be real. Every child deserves to feel safe going to school.
