Building permit process changes starting July 1

The city’s Building Safety Division is updating its building plan review and inspection procedures to certain area. The following changes will take effect beginning Tuesday, July 1:

Solar plan review resumes

We will resume conducting solar plan reviews. All solar permit applications must include a full set of plans. Please note that the Solar Design Certification will no longer be accepted in place of detailed plans.

Gas line drawing requirements for residential projects
We are now requiring gas line schematics for all new residential homes and gas-fueled appliance additions. These drawings must include:

  • Gas pipe sizing
  • Material type of gas piping
  • A diagram of all fuel-burning appliances and the branches serving them

If only a new branch is being added, you are only required to show that new branch and the associated appliances connected to the main trunk line.

New required inspections

The following inspections will now be conducted on new construction, remodels, and additions:

  • Poured shower pan
  • House wrap
  • Lath
