Commerce City’s Energy, Equity, and the Environment Division is excited to announce the launch of the Sustainable Neighborhoods Program, a new initiative designed to empower residents to take an active role in building a more vibrant, connected, and environmentally sustainable community. Through this program, neighborhoods across Commerce City can partner with city staff to organize workshops, projects, and events that improve quality of life while reducing environmental impact.
Participating neighborhoods will receive guidance and resources to implement initiatives such as community cleanups, water conservation efforts, neighborhood gatherings, and sustainability-focused workshops. Neighborhoods earn credits for their efforts and may receive official recognition from the city as either a “Participating Sustainable Neighborhood” or an “Outstanding Sustainable Neighborhood,” depending on achievements throughout the year.
“This program is about empowering residents to lead change right where they live,” said Melody Mascarenaz, Sustainability Manager. “By working together at the neighborhood level, we can create meaningful, lasting improvements that benefit our entire community.”
Commerce City recently joined the Sustainable Neighborhoods Network and has begun onboarding alongside other participating cities. Residents and neighborhood groups interested in joining the program are encouraged to learn more and get involved.
