Mercado de Derby highlights local community and culture
Published on August 14, 2026
The City of Commerce City and presenting partner Empowered, Ltd are excited to launch Mercado de Derby (Derby Market), a new community market series in the Derby neighborhood. Mercado de Derby is a family-first gathering space designed to bring neighbors together around everything from fresh produce and handmade goods to live culture and entertainment. The event blends small business support and free community programming into one welcoming Sunday event.
Mercado de Derby debuted with hundreds of attendees on Aug. 2 and returns this weekend to take place on four additional Sundays this year: Aug. 16, Sept. 6, Sept. 20, and Oct. 4. Markets will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. along E. 72nd Place between Monaco and Locust streets in the heart of Derby.
“Mercado de Derby brings families, neighbors, and small businesses together in a way that strengthens the fabric of our community,” said City Manager Jason Rogers. “Our residents have asked for more attractions and family-friendly events right here at home, and the Derby neighborhood is poised to be that gathering place. The Mercado is about more than vendor booths — it's about building a community tradition that puts Derby and our small businesses back in the spotlight."
The market creates a space to bring together local businesses, farmers, artisans, and prepared food vendors alongside live entertainment and free family programming. Nearly a dozen Derby business partners will be offering special promotions and/or discounts on market days. These local businesses are participating with in-store promotions and signage during market hours — stop by the market, then keep the day going with a walk through the neighborhood. Highlights of the 2026 season include: live entertainment featuring live music and dance performances; and a Family Kids Zone presented by The Yellow Rose Event Center and featuring arts and kids programming by the Chicano Humanities and Arts Council.
The launch of Mercado de Derby builds on the efforts of Commerce City and the Urban Renewal Authority to revitalize the historic Derby neighborhood and expand family-friendly attractions that reflect the community’s cultural identity. Those efforts include the current reconstruction of the “Derby Diamond” intersection at E. 72nd Place and Monaco Street, where the prior brick surface is being replaced with durable, low-maintenance colored concrete to better withstand traffic and reduce future upkeep while maintaining a unique character. Improvements also include enhanced pedestrian gathering areas and new water quality features.
In addition to our partners at Empowered, Ltd, Commerce City would also like to thank our event sponsors for helping to make Mercado de Derby possible: E-470, Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, Suncor, and Waste Connections.
Mercado de Derby is fully open to the public and admission is free. For more information, updates on vendors, entertainment schedules, and more, visit c3gov.com/Mercado.
