Commerce City is continuing its work to refresh the Strategic Plan, the roadmap that helps guide city priorities, projects, services, investments, and decision-making in the years ahead. On Sept. 21, City Council adopted the Updated Strategic Plan Framework, marking an important milestone in the city’s effort to modernize the Strategic Plan and better align it with the community’s evolving needs and City Council’s policy direction.

The process began during the 2026 City Council Retreat in March, when Council provided direction to modernize the Strategic Plan, clarify strategic roles, and improve transparency around how the city’s priorities are carried forward. Following the retreat, city staff worked through multiple rounds of engagement and refinement, including public meetings, Council work sessions, and community input.

With the framework now adopted, city departments are working to align their work with the City Manager’s Operations Plan. This includes developing operational objectives, confirming 2027 performance metrics and establishing the reporting and tracking tools needed to monitor progress and communicate results to the public.

The full refreshed Strategic Plan is expected to come forward for adoption in January 2027. The completed public-facing plan will bring together City Council’s long-term strategic direction with the operational steps, measures and priorities the city will use to move that direction forward.
