The city is beginning work to add and improve the medians along Highway 2 north of E. 96th Avenue. Work is scheduled to begin this week and will start with contractor mobilization, traffic control, and erosion control setup.

Commerce City Public Works is making targeted roadway improvements designed to improve safety, functionality, and long-term maintenance of key transportation corridors. Improvements include installing new concrete barriers along the roadway, adding metal guardrails over First Creek, and placing rumble strips to help alert drivers and improve safety. These upgrades are designed to better protect drivers, improve roadway conditions, and support safer travel through the corridor. The Highway 2 Median Improvements are expected to be completed by Summer 2026.

What to Expect

- A reduced speed limit through the construction zone, from 45 mph to 35 mph.

- The reduced speed zone will extend from E. 96th Avenue north to Turnberry Parkway.

One lane in each direction will remain open to traffic at all times during construction zone.

All access will be maintained., turn lanes at intersections will remain open to motorists.

Potential Project Extension

- The city has identified additional funding to potentially, if approved, expand median improvements farther north to include the area near Turnberry Parkway.

- The project is part of the city’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP), which supports planned investments to maintain and enhance the city’s infrastructure.

Drivers are encouraged to slow down, follow posted signage, and use caution while traveling through the construction zone. Updates will be shared as the project progresses at c3gov.com/HWY2Median
