In response to community feedback and questions about encampments, Commerce City is sharing additional information about the city's encampment policy and process for supporting unhoused community members and addressing unauthorized urban camping. The city website has a new page designed to help residents understand how the city addresses encampments safely, compassionately, and in compliance with local and state laws.

The city's coordinated approach includes staff from numerous departments, including Community Well-Being, Police, Public Works, Code Enforcement, and Park Rangers. The city starts by connecting individuals experiencing homelessness with available services, resources, and support. Unlawful encampments under the city's urban camping prohibition (also outlined on the webpage) can be reported to the city's AccessC3 portal

Visit c3gov.com/Encampments to learn more about the notice and cleanup process, along with the city's code language and other specific policy guidelines on the city's approach to handling this issue across our community. This initiative was developed in direct response to community input and reflects the city’s Strategic Plan goal of promoting public health and safety through transparent, collaborative, and responsive action.
