Why are you running for council?
I'm running for council because I'm deeply committed to creating positive change for all of Commerce City. I understand the burden of high property taxes due to complex metro districts, and I believe in fair taxation that benefits homeowners and residents alike. I'm also dedicated to addressing the issues of pollution, crime, and the lack of access to essential services like grocery stores, dining options, entertainment, and more.
Moreover, I am eager to put SB152 on the ballot, giving residents the opportunity to have a say in their high-speed internet access. By following the example of cities like Longmont, I envision Commerce City becoming a pioneer in providing fiber gigabit internet service to all residents at an affordable cost. This not only boosts our local economy but also attracts professional businesses, creating new opportunities and growth for our community.
What do you see as the three biggest opportunities for Commerce City?
Community-Driven Development: One of the most significant opportunities for Commerce City lies in the vast, undeveloped areas that serve as a blank canvas. We have the unique chance to engage residents in a collaborative planning process, ensuring that our city grows in alignment with their vision. By actively involving our diverse community in decision-making, we can create neighborhoods that reflect our shared values and aspirations.
Sustainable Growth: Commerce City's expansive landscapes offer a promising opportunity for sustainable development. By prioritizing environmentally conscious planning, we can preserve our natural resources, reduce pollution, and create green spaces that enhance our quality of life. This approach benefits current residents and attracts new families and businesses.
Economic Innovation: Our blank slate also presents an opportunity to foster economic innovation. By supporting local entrepreneurs, promoting small businesses, and attracting tech and professional companies, we can diversify our economy. Strategic partnerships and investments can make Commerce City a hub for innovation and job growth.
What do you see as the three biggest challenges facing the city?
Water Quality and Safety: We need proactive measures to ensure our water sources remain clean and safe. This includes rigorous monitoring, infrastructure upgrades, and collaboration with agencies to protect public health.
Metro District Accountability: Developer-controlled metro districts have created high property taxes with little accountability. We need a transparent and fair system that puts residents before developer profits.
Government Action on Citizen Engagement: Residents deserve a responsive government that listens and acts. Strengthening communication and speeding up response times will empower the community and foster trust.
What does a “Quality Community for a Lifetime” mean to you?
"Quality Community for a Lifetime" to me is a vision of Commerce City that embodies the essence of Colorado living — embracing the outdoors, celebrating our rich and diverse local culture, and enjoying meaningful experiences as residents.
My wife and I chose Commerce City because we saw it as a place to raise our family, surrounded by the beauty and vibrancy of the state. A quality community offers access to nature, diverse neighborhoods, excellent schools, and inclusive spaces where everyone feels at home.
It also means having amenities close to home, a wide range of dining and shopping options, and opportunities for people of all ages to thrive. It's about building a life and making memories in a city that supports you at every stage.
What is your favorite aspect of the city?
My favorite aspect of the city is its people and their unwavering commitment to making this a great community to live in. Commerce City residents come from diverse backgrounds and share a passion for building a better future.
Whether it's organizing community events, advocating for improvements, or supporting neighbors in times of need, the spirit of collaboration here is strong. We're not just neighbors — we're a close-knit family.
It's this community connection and shared dedication that make me proud to be a part of Commerce City.
