Pioneer Park Improvements

Located along E. 60th Avenue in the heart of Commerce City, Pioneer Park is a 37-acre facility that serves as a hub for a variety of activities and gatherings. Amenities include baseball fields, a state-of-the-art water park, splash pad, skate park, basketball courts, picnic shelters and much more.

Splash Pad Renovation

Thanks to an Adams County Open Space grant of $750,000, the city has updated the area adjacent to Paradice Island, turning the old, outdated splash pad into a vibrant, interactive amenity that brings safe, family-friendly water play to life. Designed with direct input from residents during 2024 community meetings, the new splash pad includes a variety of spray features, shaded seating areas, and a layout that encourages fun for all ages. Combined, this area has seen upgrades totaling nearly $7 million.

Paradice Island Infrastructure Repairs

In the off-season, Paradice Island underwent extensive improvements totaling just over $5 million. While much of the work is underground—including major leak repairs—visitors will enjoy an upgraded experience, including refinished slides and tower, and fresh landscaping. The city also received a $1 million grant from Adams County Open Space for this project.

Scoreboard Upgrades

Four baseball fields received new scoreboards in the fall of 2024. These upgrades were made possible by a generous $25,000 grant from the Adams County Open Space Grant. The scoreboard replacement project modernizes and improves the overall experience for players, coaches, spectators, and the community.

Future Upgrades and Public Input Opportunities

The latest upgrades don’t stop there. Commerce City is in the middle of a multi-phase revitalization of Pioneer Park to create a more welcoming, inclusive, and activity-rich environment for all users. Highlights of current and upcoming improvements include:

  • New nature-inspired picnic area closer to the splash pad
  • Renovated small playground near the ball fields
  • Small game area for informal recreation
  • New picnic shelter and casual gathering spaces
  • Improved irrigation system for healthier turf and landscaping
  • New adventure playground with play domes closer to the splash pad
  • Staging areas for youth sports teams

Community engagement was received in Q2 to shape the next phase of Pioneer Park improvements. Through  outreach events and focus groups, residents were invited to weigh in on playground designs, shade features, and other park elements.
