North Range Police Substation

Project Overview

Commerce City is committed to enhancing public safety and meeting the needs of our growing community. The new police substation will:

  • Improve emergency response times citywide by reducing travel distances for officers.

  • Provide space for additional staffing, supporting future hiring and operational growth.

  • Deliver a modern, purpose-built facility designed to meet the current and future needs of the Police Department and residents.

Why is this project important?

During the City Council Study Session on August 11, 2025, data demonstrated that Commerce City has significantly greater distances between police substations compared to neighboring municipalities. Given the city’s population and geographic size, this eight-mile gap stretches resources thin and contributes to longer emergency response times. The new substation project will close this gap, improving coverage and ensuring timely, effective service as the city continues to grow.

The proposed site is generally located at 13701 East 104th Avenue (the northeastern corner of 104th Avenue and Potomac Street).

Step 1: Rezoning

The City of Commerce City is requesting approval of a zone change from AG (Agricultural) to PUB (Public) for the 4.58-acre property. This zoning change is the first step in allowing development of a new police substation to improve public safety and emergency response times.

The zoning hearing is tentatively scheduled for public hearings:

  • Planning Commission: February 3, 2026

  • City Council: March 2, 2026
