The Public Works Department is responsible for managing and maintaining the City’s transportation network, caring for parks and open space, providing essential services to the community, and overseeing the Capital Investment Program.

Key Responsibilities:
Infrastructure Maintenance
- Maintain over 280 lane miles of streets, including travel lanes, bridges, traffic signals, bike lanes, sidewalks, and the stormwater system.
Parks and Open Space Management
- Construct and maintain over 840 acres of public parks and open space, including mowing, weed control, and fire mitigation in public right-of-way.
Transportation Planning and Safety
- Plan, manage, and ensure a safe and reliable transportation network for all roadway users.
Capital Investment Program Oversight
- Develop and manage the City’s Capital Investment Program.
Environmental and Stormwater Compliance
- Manage the stormwater system and ensure compliance with MS4 permitting requirements.
Waste and Recycling Services Administration
- Administer contract for city-wide trash and recycling services to ensure efficient and sustainable waste management.
Fleet Management
- Oversee the City’s fleet operations, including maintenance and readiness of Police Department vehicles.
Seasonal and Emergency Operations
- Conduct snow removal on roadways and pedestrian walkways, and respond to debris and illegal dumping to maintain public safety and cleanliness.
