Commerce City is taking a significant step toward a cleaner, more sustainable future with the launch of a fully electric recycling and waste collection fleet in partnership with Republic Services. Beginning in January, Republic Services will roll out the first phase of a transition that positions Commerce City as the first city in Adams County and the largest city in Colorado to adopt a fully electric collection fleet.

The new electric trucks are expected to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, lower operational noise, and improve neighborhood air quality. These improvements support the goals outlined in the city’s long-term Sustainability Action Plan.

Republic Services plans to introduce 14 new electric trash collection vehicles by the end of 2026 to improve environment and quality-of-life for residents. This is made possible by recent investments in EV infrastructure, including advanced charging stations installed at Republic Services’ Commerce City facility. These upgrades provide the capacity needed to power and maintain an all-electric fleet operating at scale.
