In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we are hosting a free community presentation with Clinica Tepeyac on Oct. 17 from 1:30–2:30 p.m. at Commerce City Anythink Library - 7185 Monaco St.

This educational talk will focus on prevention, early detection, and resources available to support our community.  The presentation will be given in Spanish, with English translation available.

El evento se llevará a cabo en español y contará con traducción al inglés el jueves, 24 de octubre, de 10:30 a.m. a 12 p.m. en las oficinas de CWB (7190 Colorado Blvd., 5to piso). Se ofrecerán refrigerios ligeros para los asistentes.

La sesión será presentada por Marinela Maneiro, psicóloga clínica, y tiene como objetivo sensibilizar sobre la importancia del bienestar emocional, compartir herramientas prácticas de autocuidado y brindar estrategias para reconocer señales de alerta relacionadas con el estrés, la ansiedad o la depresión.

We have partnered with We Don’t Waste to bring a new Mobile Food Market to the 72nd RTD Light Rail Station (3838 E. 72nd Ave.)  from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to offer residents free access to fresh, nutritious groceries.

This initiative supports the city’s ongoing efforts to promote health, reduce food insecurity, and build stronger connections within the community.

The Community Well-Being Division, in partnership with Adams County, is hosting an informational presentation about the Colorado Low-income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP).

The presentation will help attendees understand how LEAP assists eligible Colorado residents. Participants will also learn how to read and interpret a utility bill and receive practical tips for managing and reducing energy expenses. On-site application support will be available for attendees interested in applying for LEAP during the event. If interested in applying, applicants should bring a current utility bill, valid photo ID, and proof of income from the past four weeks.

In recognition of Diabetes Awareness Month, Commerce City’s Community Well-Being Division is partnering with Adams County’s Diabetes Education and Prevention Program to offer this event! 

Community members will learn about diabetes prevention, risk factors, and ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle through easy-to-underst

and information and local resources. Both sessions are free and open to everyone, and no prior registration is required. Limited A1C testing will also be available during the event at no cost to participants.

As colder weather approaches, many in our community face the difficult challenge of staying safe and warm. From mid October through December, community members are encouraged to donate hand warmers, gently used/new coats, or blankets at any of the following locations:

• Eagle Pointe Recreation Center, 6060 Parkway Dr.
• Bison Ridge Recreation Center, 13905 E. 112th Ave.
• Community Well-Being Office: 7190 Colorado Blvd., fifth floor

Enjoy light refreshments and snacks in this series where experts share information and answer questions related to community resources. These classes are free, but space is limited.  

• Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 10 – 11 a.m. at Eagle Pointe Recreation Center, 6060 Parkway Dr. — Learn from us, the Community Well-Being Division, that coordinates information and referral services, outreach, and programming to reach individuals and families in Commerce City needing services and support. 

• Tuesday, Nov. 18, from 10 – 11 a.m. at Bison Ridge Recreation Center, 13905 E. 112th Ave. — Servicios de la Raza is an organization created to ensure people in need could access essential services in a way that is respectful of their background and experiences, they will present on their programs and services to include essential community support, health services, youth programs, workforce development and more.

• Tuesday, Dec. 9, from 10 – 11 a.m. at Eagle Pointe Recreation Center, 6060 Parkway Dr. — The Early Childhood Partnership of Adams County is cultivating an effective early childhood ecosystem for children from birth through age five and their families in Adams County. Join for an overview on their programs and services provided throughout Adam’s County and the city. 

Transportation with pickup locations at Madonna Plaza, Kearney Plaza, and alternating recreation centers will be available. Register in advance at c3gov.com/Register.

In partnership with 180 Community Church, our annual Back to School Backpack Giveaway features backpacks pre-filled with school supplies for Commerce City residents. This year's event included additional fun activities for registered families to enjoy including a dj, bounce house, mechanical bull, dunk tank, batting cages, and more.

In partnership with STRIDE, the Community Well-Being Division is bringing a mobile health unit to Kearney Plaza  Apartments (6140 E. 63rd Pl.) on Wednesday, May 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Residents can stop by for free basic health screenings, hygiene supplies, and health guidance from registered nurses. A telehealth physician consult will be available if needed, along with assistance for Medicaid enrollment and financial aid. No appointment is necessary, but residents may schedule in advance by calling 720-799-5375.

As an added bonus, residents are invited to stick around after the clinic for a fun Bingo event from 2–3 p.m.

In partnership with the Street Dog Coalition,  free veterinary care to pets for those who are low-income or experiencing homelessness took place on Saturday, Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to noon, at Empowerment Apartments, 5424 E. 62nd Ave. 

Attendees will be taken care of on a first come, first serve basis. Services will be offered while supplies last and time allows. If available, please bring proof of residency. There is a limit of two pets per person/family. To attend, dogs should be on a leash and cats should be in carriers. 

Free services include:

• Flea/Tick prevention
• Heartworm testing
• Microchips
• Spray/neuter vouchers
• Pet food/supplies

In partnership with the American Red Cross, we hosted a Blood Donation Drive on Thursday, Aug. 14, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., in our offices located in the South Platte Building, 7190 Colorado Blvd. on the fifth floor. The event was open to the community and offered an opportunity to give back by donating blood while exploring the resources offered by CWB.

Giving blood takes less than an hour but can save a life, so we encourage everyone to participate, tour the new space, and join us in making a meaningful difference for those in need. For questions related to eligibility, visit the American Red Cross website.
