The program offers youth, ages 14 to 21 years old, the opportunity to get an inside look into a career in law enforcement through volunteer work, participation in community events, training and the police ride-along program.
In exchange for their service, Explorers receive police training through interaction with law enforcement professionals.
The program is supervised by one police sergeant and six police officers who also serve as mentors to the youth.
A background check and oral interview are part of the application process.
Explorer participants must submit letters of recommendation when applying and go through a selection process with final selection made by the chief of police.
To be considered for the Explorer program, applicants must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher, be of good standing in school and the community, and have no felonies. For more information, contact Officer Mike Vasquez at 303-727-3953 or email.
