Other Roads Projects
Capital Improvements Projects are one-time projects that generally consist of building improvements in excess of $100,000 or public infrastructure improvements in excess of $10,000. More than $1 billion in improvements ranging from parks to roads have been identified over the next 25 years to meet the needs of a growing community. These projects are approved by city council each year and typically funded separate from the general fund.

96th Avenue Extension
About the Project
This project constructed a new roadway connecting the existing 96th Avenue past Buckley Road and directly to Tower Road.  A new bridge over Second Creek was constructed and a traffic signal was installed at the intersection of 96th Avenue & Tower Road.  The project also involved the closure of Buckley Road south of 96th Avenue and East 88th Avenue to Tower Road.  The road extension and bridge are instrumental for the Buffalo Highlands Metropolitan District, a master planned community project at 96th Avenue and Buckley Road.

The completed 96th Avenue Extension opened in May 2015.  In addition to supporting the overall growth and development of Commerce City, the extension has provided another road spanning the city from Interstate 76 on the west to E-470 on the east. The road is currently two lanes, but has the capability of being widened to four lanes in the future.
