New public art installed at Fronterra Park
If you take a stroll through Fronterra Park (10020 Joplin St.), you may notice the new, tall accent towers on the north side of the park. The recently installed art piece is a series of six gabion structures (metal cages filled with stone). Artist Lisa Cameron Russell created “Fronterra Salon de Classes” as a way to create an intimate outdoor classroom setting. The east towers feature a Falcon, while the west towers feature a Bison to celebrate nature on the frontier.
The city and the Commerce City Cultural Council commissioned the art with funding provided by the capital improvement projects 1-percent public art fund and the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District.
