New business programs and hours of operation for Small Business Resource Center
Commerce City’s Economic Development Division announces new programs for entrepreneurs and local small business representatives at the Small Business Resource Center, 7270 Monaco St.
The new training programs focus on basic start-up essentials, finance tools, marketing, licensing and certifications, government contracting, and business planning. The trainings are offered in either Spanish or English by training program partners.
In addition to a growing number of training programs, city staff is working on creating a new finance tool to help small businesses. City council approved a seed grant for the city to start a revolving loan fund program that helps small businesses with their capital needs; this program will target small businesses that may have been turned down by conventional financial institutions. The new program will be for Commerce City-based businesses only and will be available later in 2020.
“We strive to help small businesses grow,” said Commerce City’s Economic Development Director Michelle Claymore. “By hiring a part-time programs administrator to manage the Small Business Resource Center, setting new hours of operation for the center, and presenting new programs with the help of our program partners, we hope more businesses take advantage of these offerings.”
The city recently hired a part-time programs administrator to staff the Small Business Resource Center with funding from the Community Block Grant (CDBG) program. The center is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. or by appointment. Professional business counselors from the Small Business Development Center and Colorado Minority Business Office are also available for one-on-one, bi-lingual consulting at the center.
