Share your thoughts about trash, recycling and special waste disposal options
Commerce City is one of the only municipalities to offer curbside trash and recycling service at no additional cost to residents. The city is committed to maintaining this service model and does not plan to start charging residents a fee for regular trash service.
2019 is the final year of the city’s existing contract with Waste Management, and the city will soon begin a competitive bid process to make sure we are getting the best possible service at the best available price. Changing economic markets are contributing to price increases for waste disposal, and the city is likely to see increased costs for refuse services. For example, the cost of recycling is rapidly increasing due in large part to the amount of non-recyclable material (i.e. trash) being placed in residential recycling bins.
To determine the best approach for updating the waste disposal contract, the city is collecting resident feedback to evaluate the current trash and recycling program. Your comments will help determine the program’s most valuable elements and which special disposal options residents want to have available.
