Tower-Peña project update: All four lanes of Tower Road now open
The four newly-widened lanes of Tower Road opened to traffic through the Tower-Peña project area on Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 20. This is the last major milestone during the project, which started in January and included construction of the new on-ramp from Tower Road to westbound Peña Boulevard. The new ramp opened to traffic Oct. 29.
While major traffic impacts through the project area should now be complete, occasional midday lane closures and other minor delays are still likely as finishing work is completed in the coming weeks. Drivers should still use caution when driving through the construction zone and obey posted speed limits. The project is expected to be fully complete in December.
A cooperative effort between Commerce City, the City and County of Denver, Denver International Airport and E-470, the project makes the area more convenient for drivers, reduces traffic congestion and makes Commerce City’s growing Tower Road corridor more attractive for business development. Paired with the city’s previous Tower Road Widening Project, completed last year just north of this area, this project makes Tower Road a full four lanes all the way from E. 104th Avenue to Interstate 70.
