Application Process

Applicants must complete an application for employment (provided by the human resources department or online). Forms must be typed or legibly written. Candidates must include a current resume. Applicants may be rejected if partial or inaccurate information is submitted.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicant criterion includes:

  • At least 21 years of age
  • Must be a United States Citizen or posses proper I-9 documentation to live and work permanently in the United States
  • Colorado P.O.S.T. (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certified.
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License
  • Education must include a minimum of a High School Diploma or G.E.D. (General Education Diploma)
  • Additional requirements include characteristics traits inherent in a law enforcement profession. These include, but are not limited to honesty, integrity, competence, creativity, respect, and teamwork.

Disqualification

Any of the following would disqualify any candidate:

  • Falsification of written reports, including documentation of personal information
  • Current of former member or supporter of any group that seeks to alter the form of government of the United States of America by unconstitutional means
  • Cheating on any portion of the selection process
  • Soliciting or accepting a bribe
  • Use of any illegal drug with the last five years
  • Production, cultivation, transportation, or sale of illegal drugs
  • Evidence of current excessive alcohol use
  • Giving false statements or falsifying a report while employed as a police officer
  • Use of any illegal drug while employed as a police officer
  • Any felony adjudication of any felony as a juvenile
  • Self-admitted commission of any felony as an adult
  • Conviction of any crimes prohibiting P.O.S.T. Board certification
  • Any felony conviction
  • Current restraining order pursuant to a domestic violence proceeding, or which prohibits them from possessing a firearm
  • Pattern of criminal activity (self-admitted or otherwise)
  • Convictions for Reckless Driving, or Speed Contest within the last five years
  • Driver’s license revocation, denial, suspension, or cancellation within the last five years
  • Any driver’s license revocation as a Habitual Traffic Offender.
  • Hit and Run traffic accidents within the last five years.
  • Discharge from military service under dishonorable conditions.

General Testing Requirements

Applicant testing includes:

  • Written communications skills test
  • Oral Resume
  • Performance in role-play scenario
  • Oral Interview Board
  • Voice Stress Analysis
  • Physical Examination
  • Psychological Examination
  • Extensive background investigation
  • Interview with the Chief of Police

Selection Process

Applicants who are hired must pass a one-year probation process which includes:

  • In-house training
  • Field training program
  • Successful evaluations

The badge of the Commerce City Police Department.
