CALL TO ORDER

A study session of the City Council of the City of Commerce City was called to order by Mayor Natale on February 25, 2008, at 6:30 p.m.

REPORTS

Conter Estates plans to expand their existing building. The Housing Authority will be meeting with Adams County School District 14 to discuss growth possibilities. Concern was expressed with portable basketball hoops being left in public right-of-ways. Safety concerns with traffic near Lester Arnold High School will be discussed at a future study session. Audience introductions will be discussed at an upcoming study session.  Fortune magazine is doing an article on Mr. Kroenke and the Mayor and the Marketing Director were interviewed for the article. The Eagles donated $7,500 to the Children’s Hospital. Sandra Solin reviewed the plans for the upcoming NLC meeting in Washington D.C. The egg hunt at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park will be March 15, 2008 at 10:00 a.m.

CURRENT AGENDA ITEMS

Discussion of staff proposal for recognizing citizens who attend Council meeting Customer Service Coordinator Toby Maez reviewed the proposed guidelines and form created to recognize citizens who have positively impacted the City.

Annexation Action Plan Update City Attorney Robert Gehler reported that there have been two lawsuits filed regarding the northern enclave annexations.  CIRSA will provide an attorney to represent the City as co-council with Assistant City Attorney Tom Merrigan.

Baseball Stadium Presentation Acting Deputy City Manager Roger Tinklenberg presented an overview of the proposed baseball stadium project. Council instructed staff to move forward with this project. 

Traffic Calming Device Update City Engineer Daren Sterling reported on the traffic calming device at 60th Avenue and Olive Street. Heartland Drive had a chicane put in place to calm the flow of traffic. The calming devices are working and lighting is being modified for safety.

Derby Review Board Discussion City Planner Jessica Osborne reported that the Derby Review Board needs to be established. Councilwomen Snyder will be the councilmember on the board. 

2008 Special Event Schedule Discussion Director of Parks and Recreation Carolyn Keith and Director of Marketing and Public Relations Heather Grady reviewed the 2008 calendar of events. 

C.A.R.Z. Club Proposal City Manager Flannery reviewed the proposal to award an in-kind donation to the C.A.R.Z. Club to pay for trash disposal from property clean ups.
