CALL TO ORDER

A study session of the City Council of the City of Commerce City was called to order by Mayor Natale on January 28, 2008, at 7:21 p.m.

REPORTS

Council requested the February 23, 2008, land development code meeting be moved to a later date. The Mile High Music and Arts Festival will be held at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in July.  Councilman McEldowney will fill Councilman Jaquith’s seat on the 27J sales and use tax committee.  Council agreed to help with the Rebuilding Metro Denver Project by donating $3000.  College Bowl Sunday will be in Commerce City on February 10, 2008.

Mayor Natale read the Council’s calendar of events.

CURRENT AGENDA ITEMS

North/South Trail Connection and North Area Trail Concept Discussion Parks Planning and Operations Manager Mike Brown presented the phases of the north/south trail connection and the north area trail concept.

Brighton School District 27J Middle School #4 Terry Lucero, School District 27J Growth Manager reviewed the plans for Stuart Middle School. It is to be located north of the park near Second Creek Elementary School.

Klein Halo and Water Plant Annexation Discussion Deputy City Manager Tom Acre reported that the Klein Halo property has been acquired and the City will annex it and SACWSD sill petition for annexation of the water plant into the City.  These items will be going before the Planning Commission soon.

2008 Legislative Program Discussion Sandra Solin with Capitol Solutions reviewed the legislative issues that Council, staff, and the community wish to have discussed with the Colorado Congressional Delegation. Council will need to prioritize these items by February 6, 2008, and a report will be brought back to Council on February 11, 2008.

OTHER DISCUSSION

Councilman Lewis requested talking to the railroad regarding the length of the coal trains.
