Building Code
The city adopted the Family of International Codes®. The purpose of these codes is to establish minimum requirements to safeguard the public health, safety, and general welfare from hazards attributed to the built environment.

City Charter

Adopted in 1970, the city charter established Commerce City as a home rule municipality and guides how local government functions. The charter can only be amended by a vote of the people.

Land Development Code
The land development code sets guidelines for items such as zoning, land use, signage, landscaping and fencing. It is separate from the city’s comprehensive plan, which guides development types and locations.

Municipal Code

The municipal code contains the laws (ordinances) that govern Commerce City, from neighborhood upkeep to animal licensing and nuisances. Ordinances are adopted by City Council.

Traffic Code
The Commerce City Traffic Code document contains information about traffic regualtion, equipment, signs, parking and other information.
