Community Service Officers
Responsibilities
Community Service Officers (CSOs) play an important role in the Police Department by freeing up other officers to respond to more critical duties. CSOs are civilian personnel who assist sworn officers by performing nonthreatening law enforcement duties.

Field Assignments
Field assignments vary, but duties include:
  • Acting as animal control agents when needed
  • Collecting information and filing reports for burglary, stolen vehicles, criminal mischief and similar incidents
  • Deploying the speed-control trailer
  • Nonviolent crowd control
  • Parking enforcement
  • Traffic control
  • Transporting victims, witnesses and equipment
  • Vehicle identification number (VIN) inspections
