Commerce City municipal elections are conducted every two years, in odd-numbered years, on the first Tuesday in November. Both the mayor and councilors are elected to four-year terms. Terms of office begin while taking the oath of office at the organizational meeting held on the second Monday following certification of the election. 

The next municipal election will be in 2015.

Election Calendar
The 2015 election season is coming. Voters will elect a Mayor, council member for Ward II and Ward IV as well as two individuals to represent the city at-large during the coordinated election. View the calendar here.

Becoming a Candidate
Residents interested in elected office must meet the following requirements: 
  • Citizen of the United States 
  • 18 years of age or older 
  • City resident for at least 12 months preceding appointment 
  • Resident of ward (not applicable for at-large seats) for 25 days immediately preceding appointment 
  • Cannot be serving a felony conviction (including probation or parole)

To become a candidate, residents must file a notarized candidate affidavit and file with the city clerk within 10 days of publicly announcing their intent and either accepting a donation or expending funds in support of their candidacy. Candidates must submit completed nomination petitions, signed by at least 25 registered electors within the ward or city by 5 p.m. August 24 to be placed on the ballot. August 6 Candidate Information Session
The city will hold a candidate information session at 6 p.m. Aug. 6, 2015, at the civic center to provide interested residents details on campaign rules, regulations and the city itself.
