Catalyst Program
The Commercial Catalyst Program is designed to encourage business and property owners to update building facades, signage and landscaping within the Derby District.

Program Eligibility
The program is open to property owners,business owners and/or tenants with legal, conforming uses located within the Derby Sub-Area. To be eligible, applicants must be in good standing with respect to taxes, fees, loans, or other financial obligations to the City.

Eligible Facade Improvements
  • Exterior painting 
  • Awnings 
  • Exterior lighting 
  • Window replacements and treatments

Eligible Signage Activities
Commerce City requires all new signage in the Derby Sub-Area to conform to the signage regulations stipulated within the Derby District PUD and corresponding Design Standards. Signage must utilize unique, quality, durable materials. Examples include, but are not limited to:
  • Monument signs 
  • Free-standing signs 
  • Projecting signs 
  • Wall-mounted signs 
  • Sign kiosks 
The program does not fund sign face replacements for existing signs or the installation of lexan box signs.

Eligible Landscaping Activities
Commerce City requires that applicants adhere to the approved landscape regulations and materials within the Derby District PUD and corresponding Design Standards.
  • Ground cover, trees, shrubs, and grass planting adjacent to commercial corridors 
  • Concrete related to landscaping, including pavement treatments adjacent to public Right Of Way 
  • Ornamental ironwork 
The applicant/business owner will be responsible for all maintenance of the landscaping in perpetuity. An in-ground irrigation system will be required for all landscaping other than potted flowers, plants or trees.

Funding
Funding is based on building frontage and includes sites which have double frontage on two streets. The City may provide 50 percent of the final cost up to a designated limit.
