E 104 Ave Improvements
CIP LogoIn 2005, residents of the Commerce City Northern Infrastructure General Improvement District approved a bond initiative to widen and improve E. 104th Avenue. As the northern area of Commerce City continues to grow and expand, the project is expected to improve the flow of traffic and make this vital corridor safer while also supporting area business growth.

Construction of the most recent phase (3B) between Highway 85 and Lima Street began in April 2014, with all new lanes opening to traffic on March 22, 2016.  This portion of the project completed the decade-long process of widening E. 104th Avenue to four lanes for the entire 7-mile stretch between Highway 85 and E-470.

The project included removal of all existing asphalt and construction of four lanes of new roadway, a new storm sewer system, curb and gutter, and median landscaping. Two additional lanes of the Interstate 76 overpass were constructed to carry eastbound traffic, along with new bridgework over the O’Brian Canal, a pedestrian underpass for future trail use adjacent to the O’Brian Canal, and a new crossing for the Union Pacific Railroad line.

Completed in March 2016, phase 3B of the project (pictured) widened
