Commerce City seeks community members to participate in public art selection committees for voter-approved capital projects
The City of Commerce City and the Commerce City Cultural Council are seeking individuals to participate in public art selection committees for several of the voter-approved capital projects. Applications to join a committee are being accepted on an ongoing basis and are available at c3gov.com/culturalcouncil.
The city adopted a new public art funding ordinance in January 2015, which provides a means to fund the acquisition of works of art and maintain such inventory consistent with the city’s public art master plan adopted in 2014.
Each public art selection committee is assigned to a project location and committees are now being formed for public art projects at Fronterra Park, Tower Road, and the existing recreation center. Committee members will meet three times in a four-to six-month period and are responsible for developing the art selection criteria and making a recommendation to the Commerce City Cultural Council about the art and artist for the project location. Upon approval of the Cultural Council, the recommended art and artist will be presented to City Council for final approval.
