Traffic shift in place on Tower Road at Peña Boulevard
A new traffic alignment is now in place on Tower Road at the Peña Boulevard interchange as construction picks up on the Tower-Peña ramp and widening project.
One lane in each direction has been shifted to the western lanes of Tower Road to allow for widening work to take place on the eastern lanes (which typically carry northbound traffic). The current shift will be in place for about six months. Once widening of the northbound lanes is complete, traffic will be shifted onto those lanes so the southbound lanes can be widened.
No full closures are expected during the Tower-Peña ramp and widening project, but drivers should expect to encounter delays, lane closures and other impacts on both Tower Road and westbound Peña Boulevard during construction.
This much-anticipated project will construct a new on-ramp from Tower Road to westbound Peña Boulevard, rebuild the existing off-ramp from westbound Peña onto Tower and widen Tower Road to four lanes from the Commerce City-Denver border (E. 80th Avenue) to just south of the Tower-Peña interchange. This project picks up where Commerce City’s recently completed widening project left off to make Tower Road four lanes from E. 104th Avenue all the way to Interstate 70 in Aurora. The project is expected to be complete by the end of 2018.
