In the 2017 municipal election, voters will elect council members for Ward I, Ward III and two individuals to represent the city at-large. Ballots will be mailed to registered voters starting October 16, the same day 24-hour drop box locations open.
City Council has unanimously referred one measure to the 2017 ballot. The referred question asks voters to approve an additional 5 percent excise tax of the value of the product transferred on certain marijuana transactions beginning Jan. 1, 2018. City voters approved a similar marijuana excise tax in November 2015; this new measure would replace the existing tax with clearer language that better reflects the current business environment in the city.
