COMMERCE CITY, COLO. (May 22, 2012) – For the 24th consecutive year, the City of Commerce City was honored with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). The highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, the city’s finance department was recognized for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR).
“The city’s ongoing commitment to financial excellence is being recognized nationally,” said City Manager Brian McBroom. “The ability to balance our budget and communicate financial decisions in a transparent manner is a testament to the efforts of our finance department.”
The city’s CAFR was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR. City Council honored the eight-member finance team, with Director Roger Tinklenberg and Controller Sheryl Carstens, accepting the award.
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, IL and Washington, D.C. For more information, visit www.gfoa.org.
