Oct. 21 - Weekend Traffic Advisory for I-270

DENVER – Tonight, October 21, 2011, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will continue bridge deck rehabilitation on I-270 with a full closure of eastbound I-270 between York Street and Vasquez Boulevard. The closure will be in place from 10 p.m. tonight until 5 a.m. on Monday, October 24, 2011. Major delays are expected and alternate routes such as I-25 to I-70 are strongly advised.

“These repairs will help eliminate the excessive potholes and roadway damage we have had along this portion of I-270 recently,” said CDOT Project Engineer Bryan Kalliokoski. “We have already completed the majority of the work on four of the six bridge decks and will be completing the repairs on the other two bridge decks in the next several weeks.”

In addition to the full closure, one lane of eastbound and westbound I-270 near Dahlia Street will be closed from 8 p.m. tonight until 5 a.m. Monday to allow crews to continue with the bridge deck rehabilitation on the bridges over Dahlia Street.

The bridge rehabilitation consists of rotomilling the existing asphalt, removing and replacing deteriorated concrete, paving, and striping. In all, the project will rehabilitate six bridge decks on I-270 including:

• Eastbound and Westbound I-270 over Dahlia Street
• Eastbound I-270 over the Burlington Ditch, which is between York Street State Highway 265 (Brighton Road)
• Eastbound I-270 over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad
• Eastbound I-270 over the South Platte River, which is near York Street
• Eastbound I-270 over State Highway 265

To complete the work, there will be full closures of eastbound I-270 between York Street and Vasquez Boulevard and single lane closures on eastbound and westbound I-270 near Dahlia Street for approximately two more weekends.
