Get involved in city decisions; serve on a board, committee, council, or foundation

Commerce City is seeking individuals to serve as members on the Capital Improvement Projects Citizen Advisory Committee, Quality Community Foundation, the Zoning Board of Adjustment and Derby Review Board.

“Serving on municipal boards and commissions is a great way to get more involved in the community,” said City Manager Brian McBroom. “We encourage residents to learn more about how the city operates and help build a Quality Community for a Lifetime.”

Residents are needed for the following positions:

  • Two at-large seats and one Ward I vacancy for the Capital Improvement Projects Citizen Advisory Committee. These members serve a 3-year term to work with staff on capital projects by providing advice to city council on opportunities and issues related to the implementation of the five, voter-approved CIP projects. They focus on three program elements: accountability, engagement, and potential. Meetings are once a month from 6-7:30 p.m.
  • The Quality Community Foundation has three regular-member openings. QCF’s purpose is to support and obtain funding for post-secondary education and youth recreational programs. Members serve a three-year term and meet the third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m.
  • Two alternate member seats are open for the Zoning Board of Adjustment. This board reviews appeals of the city’s zoning administration and zoning code. The board can also grant zoning variances and exceptions. Members serve a 3-year term and meetings are the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m.
  • Two design professionals are needed for the Derby Review Board. Members serve a 3-year term with the purpose to interpret and apply the Derby Design Guidelines and Standards and to grant or deny development applications based upon these standards. Meetings are the third Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m.

Interested residents should contact Lyndsy Willette at 303-289-3784 or visit www.c3gov.com/boards for more information and to apply online. All seats are open until filled. Paper applications can be picked up at the city clerk’s office at the civic center, 7887 E. 60th Avenue.
