Tower Road will have a full closure from E. 96th Avenue to E. 103rd Avenue from 5 a.m. – 9 p.m., starting Mar. 17-20, weather permitting. This closure will allow for the paving of a temporary ramp to transition traffic from the new E. 96th Avenue intersection to the existing Tower Road. Additional work will include the installation of sanitary sewer crossings.
Drivers heading south on Tower Road should turn right onto E. 104th Avenue, left onto Chambers Road, left onto E. 96th Avenue, right onto the Buckley Road detour and then right onto Tower Road. Drivers heading north should turn left onto the existing detour at E. 88th Avenue, left onto E. 96th. Avenue, right onto Chambers Road, right onto E. 104th Avenue, and then left onto Tower Road.
Drivers should plan ahead, pay attention to signs and expect delays during peak traffic hours. Tower Road remains closed between E. 88th and E. 96th avenues through April. Drivers should continue the detour on E. 88th Avenue and Buckley Road to safely navigate the construction zone.
Future detours and closures along the Tower Road corridor are likely until the project completes in December. The Tower Road widening project is one of five projects in the city’s voter-approved capital improvement program. Elements include widening Tower Road to two lanes in each direction between E. 80th and E. 103rd avenues, providing a dedicated bicycle lane on the west side of the roadway, improving drainage and moving overhead utilities underground.?
