Full Closure of E. 96th Avenue begins February 27

East 96th Avenue will be closed in both directions between Tower Road and E-470 for three weeks beginning February 27 to construct the Tower Road and E. 96th Avenue intersection.

Drivers using E. 96th Avenue to access or exit E-470 should use E. 104th Avenue or Peña Boulevard. Drivers heading southbound on Tower Road will still be able to make a right onto E. 96th Avenue to access the Buckley Road detour.

Drivers should plan ahead, pay attention to signs and expect delays during peak traffic hours. Tower Road remains closed between E. 88th and E. 96th avenues through April. Drivers should continue the detour on E. 88th Avenue and Buckley Road to safely navigate the construction zone.

Future detours and closures along the Tower Road corridor are likely until the project completes in December. The Tower Road widening project is one of five projects in the city’s voter-approved capital improvement program. Elements include widening Tower Road to two lanes in each direction between E. 80th and E. 103rd avenues, providing a dedicated bicycle lane on the west side of the roadway, improving drainage and moving overhead utilities underground.
